Written By: Darryl Gaines, in memory of Rodney Gaines.

Darryl Gaines, captain of the Hot Rods Team at Get Your Rear in Gear – Savannah, formed his team in memory of Rodney Gaines who lost his life to colon cancer on New Years Eve, 2014. “The Hot Rods” walked in honor of Rodney B. Gaines this past Saturday in Savannah. Rodney was a beloved son, husband; father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and grandfather. Rodney also had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.

Rodney had an avid passion and love for cars, and was affectionately nicknamed “Hot Rod”. The Hot Rods team is comprised of his loved ones who want to honor his memory, and at the same raise funds to help in the awareness and prevention of colon cancer. We are excited about participating in the walk, and we know Rodney (Hot Rod) would be very proud!!! One of Rodney’s first cars was a 1973 Gold Monte Carlo (above). He loved driving that car around Savannah and took excellent care of it. Just like he took care of his cars, Rod encouraged family and friends to take of themselves and each other.

Rest in peace dear Rodney. May your new wings give you freedom to fly high and fast. Those who knew you and loved you are blessed to have you in their lives. For those who are here never forget he is always with you. Continue to share his story and honor him.
