Faces of Blue: Debby Terry

By March 20, 2016Faces of Blue

I have had pain, nausea and diarrhea for years and I was very thin and weak from this. I had numerous tests done. The one thing I canceled twice was my colonoscopy (thinking, nah I don’t really need that). I had so many tests also finding a few other problems but never the main problem. I took meds to help me hold food down. I then gained a little weight. I’m a vegetarian and have always been very active – I took dance and everyday I workout just from my job.

image1Last July, I noticed I was losing weight again but I was busier than normal and stressed so I chalked it up to that. Pain started in my lower abdomen and back. I went to express care and the test showed I had a very bad UTI. I took antibiotics and the following week, I went back still in pain and with a fever. They gave me a shot and the following week, I was in so much pain that I could hardly take it. I had a fever and nausea and I couldn’t eat. There was no doctor in and by Sunday night, I laid in severe pain. My hubby tried to get me to go to the ER but I wasn’t paying that huge bill. So first thing the next morning, Ben took me to the doctor and they sent me straight for a CT scan. The techs told me to just stay that my doctor would be calling me in a minute (which was strange). She called and wanted me to meet with a surgeon and I’m thinking wow, my appendix, it must be and bad.

I met with the surgeon and I was in surgery within 30 minutes. My appendix was unrecognizable. They removed 14 inches of the right side of my colon that had ruptured as well as the ovary and Fallopian tube. There were two spots on my liver. I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer and I just went in to get my appendix out. It was a couple weeks before it sunk in and did I ever have a meltdown. I went in on Oct 31, 2014 for a liver ablation and 12 rounds of FolFox. I have no maintenance chemo at this time. God is in control and I will fight because I’m a Warrior… Infinity Warrior!
