JoshDawesonTwenty-nine year olds aren’t suppose to get colon cancer, are they?  He has been married for only 3.5 years, his beautiful wife is 7 months with their 1st child, a baby girl, he is a promising nursing student… a fabulous, strong young man who runs and works out for 2 hours everyday. His grandfather died of colon cancer 17 years ago. No other family history.

In December 2011, after 3 months of symptoms we received the news. Surgery on January 3, 2012 showed a Stage 3 Adenocarcinoma the size of a grapefruit. The good news, only 1 of 32 lymph nodes was positive. The 2nd major surgery within 48 hours of the 1st for an anastomosal leak left anileostomy.  Our next stage in this journey, chemotherapy should begin in February.

He has now lost 23 pounds, has the most amazing positive attitude and has become a true advocate for Colon Cancer Awareness as has our entire family. Our goal is to spread the word to all young adults that they are not immune to this disease.  Pay attention to your body, any change in bowel habits that last for 2 weeks need to be addressed immediately….Please!  We are confident that our precious gift from God will be a survivor…Your Prayers are more than appreciated.
