Ladd, Ill.

  • Population: 1,300.
  • Nestled in the heart of farm country in north-central Illinois.
  • 100 miles west of Chicago.
  • Smallest host city for a Get Your Rear in Gear 5K event.

A small town with a huge heart has continuously rallied around it’s own, making the Get Your Rear in Gear Ladd 5K race one of the most successful turnouts per capita on the Get Your Rear in Gear race calendar. Year One in 2010, attracted 300 participants. Now three years later, with over 500 pre-registered and more expected to turn-up on race morning, the event could draw more than 50% of the town’s population to raise awareness for colon cancer.

A news story published by the Bureau County Republican highlights the virtues of this small town race and how the funds help cancer patients through treatment programs.

“It is by far the smallest town to host a GYRIG event, but it is the one with biggest heart,” said event coordinator Kathy Martin [talking with Barb Kromphardt of the Bureau County Republican].
