In Loving Memory: Patrick Lewis

Patrick Lewis of Charlotte, NC.

Patrick and I were only married for two years to the day when he went in for a colonoscopy on December 1, 2009 and came out diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer at the age of 49. He lived for 10 months after his diagnoses and passed away on September 5, 2010. Patrick was the love of my life and I know it sounds like such a “cliché'” but he truly was and I miss him terribly.

Patrick was the man of my dreams. Confident, kind, loved to do for and give to his family, funny, strong, always positive and larger than life in my eyes. He loved his work and the people that he surrounded himself with everyday. He loved life with me and I with him. I never thought that cancer would take his life in such a short amount of time. I miss everything about him every single day.

Patrick mostly loved to be with his family, playing and traveling, spending time at the beach or anywhere that is warm and beautiful. He loved fishing and working out at the YMCA.

Patrick’s message was to never give up, fight until you can’t fight any longer. He did this in his battle with cancer, and he lived it in his life. This I believe is the legacy that he left. The first Get Your Rear In Gear 5k in Charlotte, NC was in March of 2010. Patrick was at this event, watching and waiting for his team, “Team Patrick” to cross the finish line. Unfortunately, Patrick crossed the finish line into heaven only six short months later.

Patrick was a very special man to so many, in so many different ways. He loved being a father to Lindsey and Karson and was so proud of them. He loved being a stepfather to Randi and Kaitlyn and always treated them as he own. He fought with everything he had, was so strong with never a negative thought, always positive about beating cancer.
