While there’s plenty to keep you busy this CRC Awareness Month – from running or walking in our national Get Your Rear in Gear event series, golfing in the Cologuard Classic, skiing or snowboarding in the annual Runs For Buns, or dancing the night away in the Runway For a Cure & Booty Ball Gala – we’re excited to highlight 15 years of Get Your Rear in Gear – Fort Worth and Get Your Rear in Gear – Baton Rouge!
Get Your Rear in Gear – Fort Worth, previously led by Local Event Director Michelle Squires, celebrates its 15th anniversary! Now led by a committee of healthcare professionals, Get Your Rear in Gear – Fort Worth kicks off on March 8th at Trinity Park to raise awareness about colon cancer. Funds raised will help screen uninsured patients and provide support for patients in active treatment through counseling, financial navigation, transportation support, and direct financial assistance.
Tiffany Thomas, the Local Event Director for Get Your Rear in Gear – Baton Rouge, is celebrating its 15th anniversary on March 22 at Pennington Biomedical Research Center. Tiffany was a runner in the Baton Rouge area when she first heard about her local Get Your Rear in Gear. At the time, her mom was battling colon cancer, so Tiffany asked her if she should join and start a team. She did! Unfortunately, Tiffany’s mom lost her battle with colon cancer on her 63rd birthday– April 29th, 2025– 8 years after her original diagnosis.
“Being a Local Event Director has given me more purpose in life,” reflects Tiffany. “I know that sounds extreme, but it’s giving me a platform to help promote awareness about this terrible disease. I feel like this is my way of remembering my mom and giving back to the community. The Baton Rouge Race Crew is the absolute best!!”
We wouldn’t have been capable of putting on these events without the help and support of local volunteers, LEDs, survivors, and caregivers. As well as the generosity of our presenting sponsors: City of Hope Cancer Center, Austin Gastroenterology, Lifepoint Health, Prisma Health, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at Baton Rouge General, Novant Health, Atrium Health, Gastroenterology Associates of the Piedmont, P.A., Digestive Health Specialists, P.A., and Sentara.
Not to mention the generosity of our national sponsors: Olympus, Taiho Oncology, Takeda Oncology, American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), Bayer, Sebela, Pfizer, and Merck!
