Faces of Blue: Maria Taylor

My father, Richard Vita, was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer, with mets to the liver. He fought a great fight for four years.

My dad had a smile that would light up a room. He was full of jokes and made everyone laugh. He was generous, kind, and loving. He was a hard worker and ran a Barbershop in a small town (Narberth, PA) for 25 years. Many people came to know him and enjoyed his infectious personality. He was my mom’s life; they were married 50 years, and the loss really affected her. She lost the love of her life and her best friend. My sisters and I miss him dearly; he was the best dad to us.

His message was “spend time with and money on your family. Charity starts at home.” That was even included in his obituary. He wanted no gifts for himself. He wanted only for the people who knew and loved him to spend time with their family before it was too late.

My family and I miss him so much. Get screened, don’t ignore the signs and symptoms. It could save someone before it’s too late.
