Rebecca Guinnip finishes Get Your Rear in Gear – Horseheads. She tries to run at least 10 or so 5K’s a year and ran her second half marathon on September 30th.
Rebecca Guinnip, from Horseheads, NY, had never raised money for an event before but decided to start by raising money for Get Your Rear in Gear – Horseheads. While she doesn’t have a personal connection to colon cancer, she does have friends who have lost family members to the disease and was happy to hear that the money raised stays in her local community. Plus she just felt it was the right thing to do.
Rebecca, age 40, started by putting a jug out at work and personally took the jug around asking for donations. She is also an avid Woodhull Raceway fan and knows the owner. When she asked him if she could take her jug through the stands to ask for donations, he said yes and even made a donation himself. Rebecca’s efforts brought in over $800 for the Colon Cancer Coalition to impact the Horseheads, NY-area. This story is a great example of how an easy simple thing can go a long way. “I had a lot of fun doing this,” Rebecca said, “and met very nice people who donated willingly.”
