My dad was known to his friends as Den and to his close family as Pop. He was a strong, loving man that protected and helped everyone. He always had a story to tell and was an honest man. He was a patient man that taught me everything that I know.
Pop was an aircraft mechanic at Federal Express in Memphis, TN. He was a crew chief in the air national guard stationed in Tupelo, MS where he manned OH-58 and UH-1 helicopters. He liked to fish and build things. His favorite hobby was creating a plan to modify things to make them better.
His special talent was finding ways of completing tasks that were thought impossible. He always told us, “there is always a way”
My dad ensured that everyone knew that he loved them. He told them everyday. There was never a doubt if Pop loved us, we knew. Even as he struggled to fight this devil called cancer, he would tell us “no shortcuts”. He did not want to go home to rest and come back later; he wanted to fight it and fight it NOW.
