Doug was an honorable man with integrity and a wonderful sense of humor. He was the love of my life. We started dating when we were 16 and 17 years old. We were together 43 years and married 41years. Doug and I not only loved one another, we liked one another. We didn’t have to be in the same room all the time, but just knowing one another was there was enough. We enjoyed spending time together and even after 43 years we were still madly in love with one another. He always complimented me and showed me respect. He was just a really good man.
Doug just made everything alright for all of us. He was our rock. He went through so much with his cancer treatments and hospital stays and yet he never complained or showed self-pity. He and all of us, kept hope in our hearts that he might be one of the lucky ones to beat this thing. Unfortunately, that was not to be. He didn’t want to die, but his body wouldn’t allow him to go on living. He hoped for a cure. He let them obtain samples of tissues etc from his body for research. He said if he could be an example and even make one person, go and get a colonoscopy to save their life, then what he went through was not in vane. Our close friends all went and got a colonoscopy. Doug wished he had not waited till it was to late too get his.
He had a personal relationship with God. He was a gentle giant. He loved his family and his church. He loved to mow the lawn and enjoy the sunset. He had a very big heart. He was held in high esteem by many. He was brave and couragous and good. The world was a better place with him in it. We all miss him terribly. However, we know he is in a wonderful place and I can’t wait to be with him when God calls me home. Doug came from a wonderful family, and I was fortunate enough to get to be a part of his family.
Doug was an accountant, controller and at the time of his death, the Chief Financial Officer for a manufacturing company. He considered his co-workers his work family. He was a very good money manager. He was lucky at gambling and he had a wonderful sense of humor. He was on committees at church. He served on the city planning commission. He was in Jaycees for a time. He was retired from the military. He served on several boards.
