My mom Gail Chavez courageously fought colon cancer since her original diagnosis in 1997. She was diagnosed with stage IV, and underwent surgery and radiation. In 2009, due to low hemoglobin levels, she was sent to a hematologist who took a chance and wanted to see a chest x-ray. He discovered that she had a giant tumor in her right lobe, and two smaller ones in the lower right lobe. Upon further testing (when originally they were thinking of doing a lobectomy), it was discovered it was colon cancer in her lung, not lung cancer. Since 2009, she underwent several chemotherapy treatments, clinical trials, and CyberKnife radiation. She has participated in the Get Your Rear in Gear walk since 2009, and this year she finally had her own team called “You Go Gail!” She also enjoyed several survivor/caregiver dinners. It was her wish that when she passed away that donations be made to the Colon Cancer Coalition, and her wish was granted. In November her battle with colon cancer ended.
She was courageous, never complained, and often times people forgot she had cancer because of her positive attitude and her contagious smile. I miss her everyday.

I know just how you feel. You will be able to deal with it in time( that’s what I’ve been told.) I thank God for the time had given me.
Your words are as beautiful as your mother. Rest in paradise Gail. We all love you!
