Employees of Farmers Bank of Kansas City will again join hundreds of others from the Kansas City-area to remember loved ones and celebrate survivors. Loved ones like long-time employee Shanie Hepler who passed away from colon cancer in March of 2015.
2017 is Farmers Bank of KC’s fifth year being involved in Get Your Rear in Gear – Kansas City as a part of “Team Shanie,” and third year as a sponsor. Since 2013 this dedicated group has raised over $20,000 in addition to their sponsorship dollars to help local programs that work to increase screening for the nation’s no. 2 cancer killer, colon cancer.
Shanie Hepler, of Lee’s Summit, MO, was a Farmers Bank employee and the mother of three children, ages 25, 23 and 10, when she passed away in March 2015 after a seven year battle with stage IV colon cancer. “Team Shanie” is captained this year by her eldest son, Alex. At the time of her death Shanie was an AVP of Operations at Farmers Bank of KC. She was delighted when a team for Get Your Rear in Gear was formed in her honor. She felt it not only supported her but provided a platform to share her story with others.
“Colon cancer awareness and screening is a cause very near and dear to us,” says Jacinda Zerr, market president, Farmers Bank of Kansas City. “Shanie Hepler and her family will always be a part of the fabric and culture of Farmers Bank of Kansas City and we miss her every day. She was an incredible employee and friend. Our hope is that we can be a part of educating the public that colon cancer isn’t just an old man’s disease but that cases are on the rise in young adults, like Shanie, as well. We want to spread the word about the signs and symptoms, the importance of talking to a physician, and why you should be screened.”
Thank you Farmer’s Bank of Kansas City for your continued dedication to colon cancer awareness in Kansas City. We are thrilled to have you a part of Colon Cancer Coalition family.
