On Sunday, December 5, as Maurice Hurst, Jr., returns to the gridiron after injury, he will take the field against the Seattle Seahawks in cleats with a special meaning. Hurst has selected the Colon Cancer Coalition for My Cause My Cleats weekend in 2021.
We are honored to be selected by Hurst to be spotlighted in this way. When asked about his connection to colon cancer, Hurst told us via Instagram, “My best friend just lost her dad [to colon cancer] a few months ago, so this was a tribute to their family.” That man was Glenn Goulet, who’s name is also featured on Hurst’s cleats.
Through My Cause My Cleats, the NFL offers players to showcase their passions beyond the game and wear their hearts on their feet. Players have the opportunity to pick a cause that is important to them and represent their chosen organization on custom designed cleats.
“Our hearts are with the Goulet family during this time of loss,” remarks Chris Evans, president of the Colon Cancer Coalition. “We are pleased to be able to help Maurice Hurst, Jr., the 49ers, and the NFL raise awareness of colorectal cancer and the importance of screening in his Glenn’s honor.”
Watch Hurst and look for his custom cleats when the 49ers take on the Seahawks at 1:35 PT on Sunday, December 5.
This is such a thoughtful and wonderful tribute from Maurice to my husband Glenn. Glenn would be so proud. We have such an amazing group of friends.
On behalf of the entire Colon Cancer Coalition, we are so sorry for your loss and keep you and all who loved him in our thoughts.
