Colon Cancer Coalition Now Accepting Applications for Caregiver Grants

Financial assistance is now available for those caring for a loved one with colon cancer.

MINNEAPOLIS (May 31, 2013) — Starting May 31, 2013, the Colon Cancer Coalition is accepting applications for caregiver grants through the Tony Snow & Betty Jo Caregiver Network. This branch of the Colon Cancer Coalition is named for former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, his mother Betty Jo Snow, and spearheaded by his sister, Jenny Snow Ashbrook. The mini-grants are targeted to provide financial support to the primary caregivers and family currently caring for, or who have recently lost, someone to colorectal cancer.

The opening of the application period is timed with the 58th birthday celebration of Tony Snow on Saturday, June 1. To celebrate his life and continuing legacy, the Colon Cancer Coalition is paying it forward by helping the families and caregivers like those Tony left behind when he passed away from colon cancer in 2008.

Grants will be given to:

  • Provide opportunities to create family memories.
  • Help pay for getaway time for the primary caregiver.
  • Assist with the expense of counseling for children and families.
  • Sponsor children to attend camp and other coping opportunities.
  • Help cover unexpected household expenses while a loved one is in treatment.

Applications will be accepted Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 30, 2013; recipients will be notified of their acceptance no later than September 1, 2013. Caregiver aid will be evaluated based on when applications are received, how the funds will be used, purpose of request, and other information provided in the application.
