In Austin, Texas, cancer patients are receiving customized CareBOXes, delivered to their door through the CareBOX Program. The CareBOX Program is run through an organization called ColorCancer, and provides free, urgent, and essential care supplies to cancer patients. The cancer patients, also known as CaredFORs, are able to select the items in their CareBOX that will best meet their individual needs, and provide the ideal support for their care.
Though the CareBOX Program helps patients with any form of cancer, the grant provided by the Colon Cancer Coalition will specifically help those affected by colorectal cancer. It provides critical support by furnishing items that prevent malnutrition, infection, and falls – the top three risk factors of re-hospitalization for cancer patients. The grant was made possibly from funds raised at the 2015 Get Your Rear in Gear® – Austin race.
The 2016 Get Your Rear in Gear – Austin 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Fun Run will be held on Saturday, February 27th at Camp Mabry. Registration is now open, and you can find out more information on the event page. It is never too early to register, create a team, and begin fundraising. Funds raised for the Austin race will enable us to continue providing grants within the community, and helping organizations like ColorCancer provide much needed services to colorectal cancer patients.
